FOREWORD
As the eNeuron project approaches its conclusion, we are excited to invite you to our final event on January 21, 2025, from 10:00 to 13:30 CET. This hybrid conference will showcase key achievements, use cases, and future opportunities for sustainable energy communities in Europe. Attend in person in Brussels or online to hear expert insights and engage in a roundtable discussion.
We are also excited to share our best practices book, offering valuable strategies for implementing Integrated Local Energy Communities (ILECs) and overcoming technical, financial, and regulatory challenges. Our new infopack highlights successful case studies from Madrid, where heat pump solutions were optimized, and Bilbao, where surplus renewable energy improved EV charging efficiency.
In our latest journalistic article, we explore the critical role of energy communities in accelerating decarbonization and tackling grid challenges, as well as their untapped potential to reshape Europe’s energy landscape.
As the project concludes, we remain committed to maximizing the potential of energy communities to support Europe’s energy transition. Do not miss our final event—stay updated on our website, LinkedIn, and Twitter!

Shaping the future of Energy Communities: Challenges and Lessons learned |
| |
|
On January 21, 2025, from 10:00 to 13:30 CET, the eNeuron project will host its final event—a hybrid conference exploring achievements, use cases, and future opportunities for sustainable energy communities in Europe.
Held in person at the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol headquarters (45-47 Rue de Pascale, Brussels) and online, the event will feature:
- A welcome by Dr. Maria Valenti (eNeuron Coordinator, ENEA).
- Expert insights from Dr. Christina Papadimitriou (Eindhoven University of Technology) and Mr. Jose Oliveira (ENEIDA).
- A roundtable moderated by Dr. Venizelos Efthymiou (FOSS, University of Cyprus), featuring speakers from academia, industry, and sister projects.
Complimentary refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

eNeuron's latest scientific publication |
| |
|
A recent Energies publication highlights the role of Integrated Local Energy Communities (ILECs) in supporting Europe’s climate goals.
As Europe strives for carbon neutrality by 2050, ILECs help balance renewable energy sources like solar and wind, improving grid stability and efficiency.
The study outlines a roadmap for establishing ILECs, focusing on control systems and planning tools to optimise performance and support resilient, cleaner energy solutions. |

Project's best practice book |
| |
|
The eNeuron project’s best practices book guides the implementation of Integrated Local Energy Communities. It covers European policies, technical integration, financial barriers, and community engagement.
Drawing on successful models, it offers strategies, lessons, and methodologies for overcoming challenges, emphasizing impact assessments for scalable, sustainable solutions.
The book provides a roadmap to support the energy transition and foster decentralized energy systems across Europe. |

|
The new eNeuron infopack showcases two energy management use cases.
In Madrid, simulations at Ciudad Universitaria highlighted cost-effective electric heating with heat pumps. In Bilbao’s Zorrotzaurre district, optimizing EV charging with surplus renewable energy reduced grid congestion and costs.
Both cases met key performance targets, offering actionable insights and recommendations for scalable energy solutions. |

A tutorial to eNeuron innovation |
| |
|
One of eNeuron’s goals is to design a toolbox to better harness and manage energy systems in local multi-carrier environments.
But how does it actually work? What are its main features, and how will it improve household energy efficiency?
Find out in our latest video tutorial. Learn about the tools tested in Italy, Norway, Poland, and Portugal that make energy management easier, consider environmental and cost goals, and help inform policy decisions. |
